Planning Blog: Title Design

Image
There are three titles displayed during the opening sequence to the film. They are the film title, the name of the editor and the producer. The connotation these images carry is the connotation of uncomfortability. The genre is reinforced through the showings of a figure screaming in the dark and a scary event happening and the dimming lights . The conventions used to appeal to the audience are a panning shot and the Diegetic sound of creaking doors.

Title Website Research

Image
First site: https://www.artofthetitle.com/ The first site I chose to research title sequences was "Art of the Title." This site is dedicated to films, TV shows, and other media. This is somewhat popular site as they they have thousands of followers across all their social media accounts. The website is ran by full time writer, Lola Landekic. I chose this website because of  its large amount of content. This website has information about title sequences such as how it was created and where the full project is being streamed. It also shows the videos of the title sequence in amazing quality. Another nice thing is that they rank the best ones of the year for their audience to see. Best of all it includes multiple different genres like thriller or horror, or animation to show many examples of how popular studios make them. Second site: https://www.watchthetitles.com/ My second choice for a site to research title sequences was "Watch the Titles!". This site is focused o

My Decision

Image
After doing some research the decision has been made to do the horror genre of the opening sequence. The feeling of fear you get when watching a horror film is not something that can be done easily and that is the main reason for this decision. A lot of the sounds and music are also really interesting as well as the idea of jump scares and shadowy figures and monsters.  I also like the idea of working in the night or in a dark environment.

Genre Research: Action

Image
In the action genre some commonly used camera angles are Close ups, Establishing shots, and Wide Angle. One commonly used Mis-en-scene in action is bouncing and diffusing light as well as adjusting color temperature. Zooms can be used in horror films. Rustling and drumming are some sounds and music you may hear in an action movie. One thing I love about the action genre is hand to hand combat and fight scenes. While on the contrary I am not a big fan of  how certain scenes not pertaining to action may be unmemorable. Some examples of films in this genre are the Avengers films .

Genre Research: Comedy

Image
In Comedy some commonly used camera angles are Two Shots. In comedy the soundtrack is more upbeat than other genres and the lighting is brighter and makeup used would be very colorful. Cutaways can used in comedy films. Laugh Tracks and teeth shaking are common sounds that used. One thing I love about the comedy genre is the goofiness and silliness involved. While on the contrary I do not care about how insensitive certain jokes and comedic gags may be. Some examples of films in this genre are Phineas and Ferb: Candace against the universe and The Spongebob movie: Sponge On The Run .

Genre Research: Horror

Image
In the horror genre some commonly used camera angles are Close ups, Establishing shots, and Zoom. One commonly used Mis-en-scene in horror is dark lighting and color. Quick cuts are often used in horror films. Creaking is a sound that is used  horror films usually when someone opens a door. One thing I love about the horror genre is the feeling of fear you create. While on the contrary I am not a big fan of  how overused certain tropes may be. Some examples of films in this genre are Halloween, Hereditary, and The First Purge.

My Pitch

Image
Pitch 1: A boy comes back home and finds a very unpleasant surprise waiting for him. I would be interested in making this film for a multitude of reasons. For starters, I have always been interested in the horror genre. I have had a couple of nightmares that felt like this and it feels like it would be easy to visualize. It also feels like a film that I would be able to capture the emotions for fairly easily.  This film would show how quickly someone's life could change. Overall it feels like a project that would be fun to film. Pitch 2: Man who gets freed from prison experiences how much the world has changed. I would not be too interested in making this film. This seems like something that is best expressed through a podcast or article and not a film. This film also seems like a very difficult task to take part in. I also feel like I would not be able to capture certain expressions that are necessary. Overall this project is not that interesting to me.
